The High Commissioner H.E Dorothy S. Hyuha attended the School for Life Foundation gala ball 2025 held at the Venue Alexandria in Sydney, Australia on Saturday 5th May, 2025. The annual gala ball, now in it’s 15th year, was held under the theme ‘Time to Shine’, is a premier event in Sydney’s philanthropic calendar that brings together the city’s prominent figures to raise funds for the foundation’s activities in Uganda.
The annual gala ball, now in it’s 15th year, was held under the theme ‘Time to Shine’, is a premier event in Sydney’s philanthropic calendar that brings together the city’s prominent figures to raise funds for the foundation’s activities in Uganda. This year’s gala was hosted by prominent Australian actor, comedian, television & radio host Hamish Blake and included live performances from the premier bands; The Shelf Live and Furnace & Fundamentals. Auctions were expertly handled by James Chauncey & Nick Johnson.
School for Life Foundation, whose vision is to ‘educate poverty out existence’, was established in 2008 by the then student volunteers Annabel Chauncey, OAM, and David Everett, OAM and has grown from humble beginnings to build 3 schools and 3 health centers in Mpigi District. The foundations other achievements include educating 4,500 students across 10 schools, providing nutritious meals, providing safe drinking water to the community, providing menstrual hygiene kits & health education to girls.
Furthermore, the foundation provides direct employment to 200 Ugandans in teaching, administration, support services and construction School for Life is partnering with farmers in the Kakuuto to improve household incomes and in this regard, is helping farmers set up a farmers cooperative and hands on training on skills to improve crop & animal yields done at their new 28 acre model farm.
