Dual Citizenship

GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR DUAL CITIZENSHIP

\r\nA person applying for dual citizenship shall, before being registered, satisfy the board that:
\r\n
    \r\n
  • He or she is not engaged in espionage against Uganda;
  • \r\n
  • He or she has not served in the voluntary service of the armed forces or security forces of a hostile to or at war with Uganda;
  • \r\n
  • He or she has not attempted to acquire Ugandan citizenship by fraud, deceit or bribery or by intentional or otherwise deliberate false statements in an application for citizenship;
  • \r\n
  • He or she does not have a criminal record;
  • \r\n
  • The laws of his or her country of origin permit dual citizenship;
  • \r\n
  • He or she is, at the time of application, of or above 18 years of age;
  • \r\n
  • He or she be of sound mind;
  • \r\n
  • Does not hold more than one citizenship;
  • \r\n
  • Is not an undischarged bankrupt or insolvent.

CHECK LIST FOR DUAL CITIZENSHIP APPLICATIONS

\r\n

1.Fill in Dual Citizenship application form and have it commissioned or notarized by a high court judge or notary public.

\r\n

2. A covering letter addressed to the Chairperson, National Citizenship and Immigration Board.

\r\n

3. A letter from the sponsor who should be a Citizen of Uganda by Birth/Decent.

\r\n

4. A letter of Good Conduct from the Home Country or Interpol.

\r\n

5. Evidence that the applicant was a Ugandan (Only applicable to Ugandans in the Diaspora).

\r\n

6. Proof that the applicant has been granted Citizenship by Registration (only applicable to Foreigners who have been granted Ugandan Citizenship by Registration).

\r\n

7. Evidence that other Country other than Uganda allows Dual Citizenship (e.g. a letter from the Immigration Authority of that country or copy of the provisions of Laws permitting Dual Citizenship of that Country).

\r\n

8. 2 Passport copies of recent photographs of the applicant.

\r\n

9. Evidence that the applicant or his/her Parents have ever resided in Uganda.

\r\n

10. Applicants who were not originally Ugandans must provide evidence of having lived in Uganda legally for at least ten years.
